Host the Iris Griffith Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Iris Griffith Centre was built by the Lagoon Society in 2005 and has been our safe and secure home for programs, outreach, and events for eleven years now.  The IGC is an outstanding state-of-the-art green building which houses a wide variety of interpretive displays and exhibits.  The IGC is surrounded by a twenty acre nature reserve which includes a fully restored lake with surrounding wetlands as well as many extraordinary outdoor facilities and exhibits.  There is a native plant nursery, a bird blind with a green roof, a windmill, a solar owl and a beautiful stained-glass work of art that gives thanks to all our generous donors. There is also a small store in the centre with a selection of environmental gifts and books that is operated as an offshoot of the EarthFair Store. Downstairs in the spring and summer we open up a small freshwater aquarium and have lots of tanks showing off the local aquatic fauna.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IGC is where we conduct most of our educational programs during school term time, including our flagship Nature School Program, which has gained universal admiration from schools and teachers all over British Columbia and beyond.  Many other social and educational workshops and events take place here including the occasional conference, BioBlitz or Christmas party.   In the summer holidays the Lagoonies day camps are extremely popular and so there is never a dull moment.  We also have a very active program schedule including workshops, lectures and seminars.

Hosting the Iris Griffith Centre is a great way to share your passion and excitement for plants and animals and the environment around us with those around you \u2013 we can promise that no two days there are ever the same!  You just never know who is going to pop in and there is always lots to do in and around the centre to keep it all clean and tidy and to keep the residents well fed and looked after.  
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are always on the lookout for volunteer hosts who can help us to greet guests and show them round the centre and the grounds. \u00a0There are few more pleasant places to spend the day and there\u2019s always something to to see or hear or learn. Why not give us a ring and we can introduce you to the wonderful group of volunteers who would be only to happy to show you around and tell you all about the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will also soon become more adept at separating fact from fiction!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nestled in the heart of Madeira Park the EarthFair Store is in the perfect location – right next to the liquor store. The store is operated by the Ruby Lake Lagoon Society and all proceeds go to the running of the Iris Griffith Centre and other Lagoon Society programs. \u00a0We stock a wide range of novels, guidebooks, cookbooks, biographies, children\u2019s books and gifts to inspire passion, excitement for life and a happy planet! The EarthFair Store acts as a hub of activity, promoting all sorts of events and activities for many different societies and groups up-and-down the coast as well as all of the Lagoon Societies many activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
